Ectropis obliqua nuclear polyhedrosis virus (EoNPV) is an important pathogenic microorganism of tea geometrid. After spraying onto crops and being eaten by pests, the virus particles replicate and multiply in the pest body, quickly spreading to all parts of the pest. The virus drastically consumes the tissues of the worms, causing the pests to stop eating or moving during the period of "illness," resulting in a sub-lethal effect, and eventually killing the pest. The virus can also infect larvae that hatch from eggs when they consume the virus. Additionally, virus particles can continue to be transmitted to the next generation or other pests through the body fluids and feces of dead insects, providing long-term field pest control.
