Ectropis obliqua nuclear polyhedrosis virus (EoNPV) is an important pathogenic microorganism of tea geometrid. After spraying onto crops and being eaten by pests, the virus particles replicate and multiply in the pest body, quickly spreading to all parts of the pest. The virus drastically consumes the tissues of the worms, causing the pests to stop eating and moving during the period of "illness," resulting in a sub-lethal effect. Eventually, the pest dies from dehydration. When sprayed on eggs, the larvae that hatch will die after feeding on the virus-infected eggshell. Additionally, virus particles can continue to be transmitted to the next generation or other pests through the body fluids and feces of dead insects, effectively controlling field pests for a long time.
